Dear Friends and Family,
I'm writing to you today about an important cause I'm supporting: public education in Oakland and Alameda. I believe strongly in the power of public schools to shape our communities, and I'm committed to helping ensure all students have access to enriching educational experiences.
That's why I'm participating in Ride 4A Reason, an annual bike ride to Sacramento that raises funds for public schools in Oakland and Alameda. This will be the 17th year of the ride, and over that time, Ride 4A Reason has raised nearly $1.8 million. This money directly benefits students by funding essential programs and resources.
The impact of this fundraiser is tangible. Last year alone, Ride 4A Reason helped over 6,000 students in eleven Oakland and Alameda public schools. These funds provided field trips, library access, outdoor education experiences (like river rafting), and sports team uniforms – opportunities that might otherwise be unavailable. These kinds of programs enrich learning and foster a deeper engagement for the students, in addition to what the teachers bring every day.
While state and local governments provide the foundational funding, that base level doesn't cover all the programs that make a strong, dynamic and well-rounded learning environment. The reality is that public schools, particularly in underserved communities, often face significant funding gaps. This has been even more apparent since the expiration of temporary COVID-19 relief funding.
My goal is to raise $250 by April 26th, when I participate in the ride. 100% of the funds raised go directly to supporting public schools in Oakland and Alameda. Any contribution, whether it's $10, $50, $100, or more, will make a difference. By donating, you would make a significant contribution to providing equitable access to quality education.
