I need your help... I'm trying to raise $1000 to support kids at Oakland and Alameda public schools.
On April 20th, I will be riding in the 16th annual Ride for a Reason in a 110 mile bike ride from Oakland to Sacramento with hundreds of other parents, teachers, and students.
The pandemic dramatically highlighted the central role that schools play in providing education and social support for our children. Our public schools remain significantly underfunded. More than half the kids at our 12 participating schools are low income and qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. At five of the schools, more than 90% of the kids are.
The funds we raise are distributed evenly among all the participating schools, and the schools decide how best to use the money. In the past, they've used the funds to support school libraries, art, music, sports, field trips, after school programs, and even ordinary school supplies needed by teachers.
